Now that the election cliches are receding ...

... some new old words and phrases are lurching into view. Baltimore Sun copy chief John McIntyre is doing his best to keep us safe from them.

I understand that cliches are tedious and should be avoided in professional writing, but I wonder why McIntyre uses such a supercilious tone.

He's also engaging in mind-reading in the last paragraph, which, in my opinion, is far more undesirable than the use of cliches.
